18 RUE DU CALVADOS, VIRE, 1944
For this film, I wanted to explore the idea that an apartment could hold a moment in time just before everything changes, almost like all of the past is kept in the walls. There’s this intense intimacy in inhabiting that space after people are gone. And the tragedy is that despite all we know about them from what's on the walls, we have no idea what happened to them after that-- where they are now, if they’re even still alive. So we're afforded this very powerful intimacy with the people who lived there but only with a piece of them that's now gone.
